The Nouveau Classical Project – Currents

released on CD and digital December 6th, 2018

Currents, the debut album from NCP, features electro-acoustic works for flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano commissioned by the ensemble and composed by David Bird, Olga Bell, and Isaac Schankler.

Each composition presents a varied approach to electronics: Bell’s Zero Initiative utilizes playback of a conversation secretly recorded outside of a music venue; Bird’s Cy,  inspired by Cy Twombly’s paintings, features clarinet preparations and alterations as well as triggered samples of cassette tape tones and tape hiss; Isaac Schankler’s Artifacts explores the collision of time scales that often happens when electronic music and acoustic music meet.
