Andrew Livingston – Thornwood

released digitally June 3rd, 2022

The world from my vantage point, colored by my experiences, has proven to be a dangerous, violent and scary place that is confusing and heartbreaking but also filled with boundless love, beauty, joy and wonder. I feel like heaven, hell and everything in between are all tangible in waking life simultaneously. A great deal can bloom and thrive throughout dystopia. I reached a point in my life in which I couldn’t run or hide from painful things but can still embrace the wonderful things. I often am impressed by how fragile yet durable and persistent flowers are. The next thought for me is usually that this paradox extends to all living things from bacteria to humanity. Everything and everyone struggles. All of us are floating in a big spectrum of difficulty, ease, sadness, joy, tragedy, comedy, love, hate, resentment and forgiveness. They all live under the same roof of consciousness. I am trying to stop judging things and states of being but also trying to actively observe the reality and truth of the beauty that resides everywhere in everything. I think that is the elusive “will to live” I have heard described in perhaps better ways than I can. My attempt is through this music. I wanted to make something really vulnerable and expressive and true. I hope this is. I think of Thornwood as both dreamy and earthy. “Head in the clouds and feet firmly grasping terra firma” type of thing. – Andrew Livingston, April 2022
